About In The Weeds

​Mission: To provide support to staff within the hospitality industry and create a sustainable restaurant community. In the Weeds is dedicated to promoting mental health, preventing suicide, and reducing substance use within the restaurant and hospitality sectors. We aim to foster a sustainable, resilient workforce through innovative support and wellness programs.

Founded by hospitality professionals with a deep understanding of the industry’s unique challenges, In the Weeds provides resources, community, and education to empower workers and improve their mental well-being. Our comprehensive programming includes life skills training, wellness activities, mental health workshops, and substance use prevention initiatives that foster a healthier, more supportive environment.

Programming: 

  • Alternative Activities: Offering yoga, outdoor excursions, and substance-free events to promote well-being.

  • Professional and Life Skills Training: Programs aimed at capacity building, such as financial literacy and career development.

  • Peer-to-Peer Support Groups: Safe spaces for workers to share challenges and receive support.

  • Outreach and Referral Services: Connecting workers to essential resources such as counseling, housing, and job placement services.

Position Summary

The Executive Director provides strategic leadership to position In the Weeds as the go-to organization supporting the Restaurant and Hospitality Service Industry, focusing on mental health, suicide prevention, and substance use reduction. The Executive Director ensures that the vision, mission, and goals of the organization are achieved by overseeing daily operations, building community relationships, and advancing the organization’s impact.

Key Responsibilities: 

Leadership & Management: 

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to implement strategic initiatives.

  • Provide guidance for Board meetings, committees, and policy development.

  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring compliance with all 501(c)(3) requirements.

  • Supervise staff, contractors, and volunteers.

  • Champion and uphold Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) principles across all organizational activities, ensuring a welcoming, supportive, and equitable environment for staff, volunteers, and the community.

Financial Management: 

  • Ensure financial stability through budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls.

  • Prepare and present the annual budget for Board approval.

  • Provide regular financial updates to the Board and stakeholders.

  • Oversee third-party financial reviews or audits.

Program Development & Implementation 

  • Plan and deliver impactful programming aligned with the organization’s mission.

  • Continuously evaluate and refine programs to ensure maximum impact.

  • Serve as an expert resource, making referrals to external organizations as needed.

Outreach & Resource Development:

  • Lead community outreach and awareness campaigns.

  • Build relationships with industry stakeholders, including donors, funders, and volunteers.

  • Develop and execute fundraising activities, including campaigns, events, and grant writing.

Additional Skills & Expectations:

  • Lead with a collaborative and positive approach.

  • Build strong relationships within and outside the organization.

  • Demonstrate exceptional public speaking and written communication skills.

  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Supervision

The Executive Director reports to the President of the Board or a designated Board member. The Board conducts employee evaluations, approves pay, and establishes the work schedule for the Executive Director.

Salary Range & Compensation Transparency 

In compliance with Colorado’s pay transparency regulations, In the Weeds provides the following details regarding the compensation and benefits for the Executive Director position:

• Salary Range: $52,000 – $70,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

• Benefits:

• Health insurance stipend to assist with medical coverage.

• Retirement savings through the Colorado Secure Savings Plan, providing employees with opportunities for future financial security.

• Paid time off (PTO), including vacation days and sick leave, to ensure a healthy work-life balance.

Employee Record-keeping

In the Weeds maintains complete and accurate records of all job descriptions and employee compensation to ensure transparency and fairness in employment practices.

Physical & Mental Requirements

This position requires the ability to travel for outreach and organizational management, manage multiple ongoing projects, and effectively lead a team. There are no additional physical or mental requirements beyond those necessary for the role.
